2022/23 Argentina Corn 5.4% Harvested vs. 10% Last Year

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Argentina registered some of the best rains of the summer last week and there are more in the forecast. The improved moisture is coming late for much of the early planted corn, but it could help some of the late planted corn.

The corn harvest in Argentina was 5.4% as of late last week compared to 10% last year and 13% average. As you can see on the chart below, it is a slow start to the harvest. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimated the nationwide corn yield thus far at 3,450 kg/ha (54.8 bu/ac) and that their estimate might move lower in future reports.

Early corn yields were impacted by hot and dry conditions during grain filling and late planted corn yields were impacted by high temperatures during pollination. The early corn is 53% maturing and the late corn is 47% filling grain.

Below is the corn harvest progress from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (black line).
