Brazilian Grain Firm AMAGGI Using B100 in Barging Operation

The Brazilian grain firm AMAGGI continues to take steps to decarbonize their industrial and farming operations. As part of that process, the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has given permission for AMAGGI to operate one of their barging operations using only B100 biodiesel, which is made from 100% soybean oil.
The tugboat "Arlindo Cavalca" left the port of Porto Velho, Rondonia on May 11th transporting 25 grain barges on the Madeira and Amazon Rivers to the Port of Itacoatiara on the Amazon River. The round trip is expected to last ten days and consume 120,000 liters of biodiesel produced in one of AMAGGI's crushing plants. They estimate that the conversion from petroleum diesel to B100 biodiesel will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 99%.
ANP also gave permission for AMAGGI to fuel 100 trucks in their trucking fleet with B100 as well as all the farm machinery on one of their farms in the state of Mato Grosso.
According to AMAGGI's president, Judiney Carvalho, the company's goal is to become carbon neutral in all its operations by 2050 and the use of B100 is an integral part of that effort. This is part of a larger effort in Brazil to make all parts of Brazilian agriculture more sustainable.
