Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Most of the corn harvested thus far is from the core production areas where the corn was planted earlier and had beneficial weather during the growing season. Very little of the corn impacted by corn stunt disease has been harvested and when the harvest does move into those fields, the nationwide corn yield is expected to decline.

Corn in Argentina was 30.1% harvested as of late last week compared to 36% average. This represented an advance of 2.1% for the week. In the core production areas, the corn is 75% harvested with 15-35% harvested in southern Argentina and approximately 10% harvested in far northern Argentina.

The average nationwide corn yield thus far is 8,050 kg/ha (127.9 bu/ac), which is down 2.1 bu/ac from the prior week. Corn yields range from a low of 2,370 kg/ha (37.6 bu/ac) in northern Argentina to a high of 10,800 kg/ha (171.7 bu/ac) in the northern core region. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left their corn estimate unchanged this week at 46.5 million tons.
